D. Michael Crites Appointed to Ohio Elections Commission
Dinsmore & Shohl LLP’s D. Michael Crites has been appointed by Gov. John Kasich to the Ohio Elections Commission for a term ending Dec. 31, 2022.
Crites is one of seven members on the bipartisan commission, which was created to enforce the state's campaign finance and fair campaign practices laws. The commission handles between 800 and 1,000 filed complaints every year from three sources: one of the 88 County Boards of Elections, the office of the Secretary of State, or from an individual upon the submission of an affidavit of complaint based on personal knowledge. Commission members, who are confirmed by the Ohio Senate, cannot be otherwise affiliated with or make contributions to any political campaign or a political party during their tenure.
Crites’ legal practice focuses exclusively on white collar criminal defense and complex business litigation. As the former United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio and an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, he has years of grand jury and litigation experience in federal court and regularly litigates and negotiates global settlements of criminal, civil and regulatory matters on behalf of corporations and businesses throughout the United States.
