Mark Carter Appointed to JVAC
Governor Jim Justice has appointed Dinsmore Partner Mark Carter to the West Virginia Judicial Vacancy Advisory Commission. The bipartisan panel of eight advisers meets ad hoc to evaluate and make recommendations to the governor regarding judicial applicants throughout the state’s courts.
“It’s an honor to serve the state in this capacity,” Carter said. “I am grateful for the appointment and look forward to working with my fellow commission members.”
As Chair of Dinsmore’s labor practice group, Carter’s focus is a traditional labor law practice. He has practiced 33 years in Charleston, West Virginia representing parties throughout the United States. He has also appeared frequently before the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia, the federal circuit courts of appeal and is currently litigating in the Supreme Court of the United States. He is a former management chair of the Antitrust RICO and Labor Law Committee of the American Bar Association and current chair of the Federal Service Impasses Panel upon the appointment of President Trump in July 2017.
Mark is a Fellow in The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and was named one of the state’s top 10 attorneys by Super Lawyers six successive years. He received his B.A. from The University of Michigan and J.D. from West Virginia University.
