Dinsmore Launches Government Contracts Group with Addition of Partner Walter Wilson
Dinsmore & Shohl LLP is pleased to announce it has established a government contracts practice group along with the arrival of industry heavyweight Walter Wilson, who comes to the firm as partner of counsel.
Wilsonhas more than four decades of experience guiding companies of all sizes through each phase of the government contracting process. His practice group will assist clients in the supply, service, manufacturing and construction industries with concerns related to grants, bid protests, teaming agreements, intellectual property rights, affirmative action requirements, international contracting issues, federal claims and disputes and much more.
He is so deeply rooted in the field that he literally wrote the book on it. He is the general editor of LexisNexis’ 15-volume treatise,“Government Contracts: Law Administration and Procedure,” a mainstay in law offices across the country, and its three-volume treatise, “Federal Contract Management.”
“My practice is extremely broad,” Wilson said. “The government buys everything from paperclips to aircraft carriers. It builds buildings, roads, dams and tunnels, and it is the largest renter and user of office space in the United States. My job is to represent any contractor who wants to have or keep a government contract, and to ensure it is treated and paid fairly for the work it performs.”
Although a skilled litigator, Wilson always prefers to resolve matters through the more cost-efficient and expeditious administrative tools available to government contractors. He comes to Dinsmore from Polsinelli, where he did similar work. He was attracted to Dinsmore by the challenging opportunity to help new and interesting clients achieve their government contract goals. He also believes strongly in what he favorably refers to as Dinsmore’s “Midwestern mentality.”
“Dinsmore attorneys really care about their clients and work hard to provide the best possible service. Clients are more than just numbers on a sheet at Dinsmore,” he said.
His Dinsmore government contracts group will be the fourth Wilson has led in his career. He plans to grow the firm’s group over the next several years, so Dinsmore is nationally recognized for its government contracts expertise and its success in addressing the federal procurement needs of its clients.
“It’s vital in this area to understand the client’s business in advance of emergencies,” Wilson said. “When they call and need my help, I know their specialty. You have to know how to successfully apply the law, whether your clients are putting a satellite into space or selling computer data services to the government.”
Away from the office, Wilson and his wife keep homes in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and Sarasota, Florida. He fancies himself a people person, and he loves to hike and golf.
