Dinsmore Honors Service on Veterans Day

Dinsmore & Shohl LLP proudly honors the service and sacrifice of our veterans through a multi-city effort in conjunction with the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Veterans Legal Services Initiative. The program provides veterans and their families information on legal services and support.
“Dinsmore is grateful for the sacrifice and bravery of our veterans and members of the armed forces, and this is a way of showing our appreciation and helping those who have served our country,” said George H. Vincent, Dinsmore Managing Partner and Chairman. “We are proud to join the ABA’s initiative to support veterans in our communities and assist with their legal needs.”
Pittsburgh Partner Penina Lieber spearheaded Dinsmore’s efforts to take part in the Veterans Legal Services Initiative. Penina serves on the ABA Board of Governors and learned about the program at the ABA Annual Meeting earlier this year. From volunteer events to educational programs, Dinsmore attorneys across the country are working to provide resources to veterans and their families.
Chicago: Attorneys in the Chicago office are volunteering at a local StandDown event in conjunction with the Legal Assistance Foundation (LAF) of Metropolitan Chicago to advise homeless veterans about the healthcare and disability benefits available to them through the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. Attorneys are also taking part in a LAF roundtable discussion on Veterans Day.
Cincinnati: A team of Dinsmore attorneys participated in a Cincinnati Bar Association program to receive specialized training on providing legal services to veterans. Additionally, attorneys are looking to get involved with veteran support programs through the Ohio Bar Association and the Cincinnati Bar Association.
Detroit: Attorneys in Detroit are working with the Wills for Heroes Foundation to launch a local program in Michigan to provide wills for veterans and their families. The Detroit office is also conducting a care package drive to support a local Marine battalion currently deployed on a crisis response operation.
Lexington/Frankfort: Dinsmore’s Lexington and Frankfort attorneys will receive training from the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs on pro-bono legal programs available to veterans throughout the state.
Pittsburgh: The Pittsburgh office hosted a Veterans Legal Services Initiative for judges and organizations in the community who provide services to members of the armed forces. Representatives from local courts, law schools, and veteran advocacy groups were in attendance to discuss ways they can best serve the veterans in the community.
West Virginia: Dinsmore attorneys are participating in a local 10K walk/run that benefits veterans and the organizations that serve them, including Wills for Heroes. The attorneys are also looking for partnership opportunities with organizations that focus on legal services or suicide prevention for veterans.
“I’m pleased with what we have coordinated so far and look forward to expanding the initiative to all our offices,” said Penina Lieber. “These programs will make a real and lasting difference in our communities, and we are raising awareness for the unique obstacles our veterans face when they return home.”
