What’s something they don’t teach you in law school?

Law school is a great place to learn the skills needed to spot legal issues, write coherently, and challenge yourself intellectually. But what you’re not taught is the business of law and establishing relationships outside the profession. That’s something that has to be learned on the job through client interaction, getting involved in the community and effectively marketing your skills.

Who is someone in the legal industry you admire, and why?

It’s too hard to narrow it down to one, so here are three: Professor Jamie Abrams at University of Louisville, because not that others don’t, but you can tell from day one in her class that she cares about the well-being and success of her students. Also, [Dinsmore attorneys] Alina Klimkina and Donna Perry. Alina and Donna are extremely knowledgeable, tactical, and skilled litigators who aren’t afraid to take a case to trial (which is rare in today’s world). They’re not only first-class lawyers, but also first-class people.
