Webinar Series: Eliminating Bias: Does Title VII Prohibit Discrimination on the Basis of Sexual Orientation - Webinar 2: Unpacking the SCOTUS Decision on Title VII and Other Pending Civil Rights Matters

July 8, 2020 at 12:00pm (EST)

In one of the more hotly debated decisions of 2020, the Supreme Court’s decision on Title VII will potentially give a definitive answer to whether federal protections against sex discrimination implicitly prohibit sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination, and is likely to provide clarity to employers that have faced conflicting decisions from various federal courts around the country.

Our attorneys cover the decision in a three-part series, including a best practices session on identifying implicit bias toward members of the LGBTQ+ community, a session breaking down the SCOTUS Title VII decision, plus a roundtable discussion with our attorneys covering the decision’s impact on business and HR operations.

Webinar 2: Unpacking the SCOTUS Decision on Title VII and Other Pending Civil Rights Matter

While the U.S. Supreme Court’s highly anticipated decision to extend Title VII protections to the LGBTQ community may seem momentous, to the Court, the case was a run-of-the-mill statutory interpretation question and not one about creating or extending rights to LGBTQ people. So the question is, how will this impact people and businesses?

In the second session of our series on eliminating bias, learn about:

  • What the Supreme Court decided;
  • What the Court did not decide;
  • Actionable items for businesses to consider, such as non-discrimination policies; and
  • How the Court’s opinion may lead to additional questions for the LGBTQ community in the future.

Over the past decade, federal courts wrestled with questions regarding civil rights and civil liberties for the LGBT community. We also discuss the sources of these protections, as well as preview cases pending across the country that may have a significant impact on the LGBT community.
